Post Re: Building a smokehouse
I bought a magazine the other day that had a realy simple smoker though it was a bit small

It was in the UK VW Camper and comercial magazine.

I cant find it at the moment but it used a biscuit tin the chips went in the bottom the grill from a disposable BBQ went over the chips and the meat sat on top of that. A couple of holes in the lid and the whole lot sat on one of those single burner stoves.

How easy is that.

I would imagine using a BBQ with a hood would do the trick. That would be Hot smoking as oppsed to cold smoking but that is a valid method.

now who stole my VW magazine :hmm

Post Re: Building a smokehouse
Too many things to do, like fixing fencing, working for a living, mowing, garbage runs, putting on some new decking so a spa could be installed for my mum's 60th....you know how things get. We made a list a while ago of all the things (new projects and maintenance) that needed doing, and it was horrifying!!

Anyway, we met this lovely older couple in Sutton (the same one we got the poly tunnel and amazing tomatoes off) and they have a big steel smoker just sitting out the back because they used to run the Gunning butcher. I got cheeky and asked if we could use it and they were kind enough to say yes!

I have a smoke house, wine vat & pickling tank all courtesy of the Serbian builder who built our house in the late 60's. The smoke house is a steel wood framed garden shed 3x3m with a fire pit in the floor. It fits a couple of pigs hanging from the steel bars in the roof and kilos of meat in the pickling vat. It is all black and smoky inside and would smoke for days - so the neighbours tell us. Only trouble we have a shortage of pigs to kill.
