Very very interested, I wonder if you can put chips in to flavor the meat though?

I looked for an instructional article on the web and found http://www.cruftbox.com/cruft/docs/elecsmoker.html

The only problem is the created smoke may disturb the neighbors. May be I can offer them the smoked things

We need to assemble some kind of smoker by next friday to smoke bacon etc from our pigs, does anyone have any suggestions for a rapid smoker construction?
I had thought of buying an old bbq with a hood and putting the chips into it and putting the burner under the plate onto low heat to start the smoke & drill some holes in the top of the hood to put in a rack to hang things on? Or do you think that the meat will be too close to the smoke?

I think the important thing is that the meat is not too close to the heat otherwise it cooks.
