Just a quick update on the chicken shed, I finished the chicken door & the laying box today :)
I've included some pictures of both, the laying box backs onto the garden rather than the pen & the lid hinges up so that ones doesn't have to enter the pen to collect the eggs.
The idea behind the chicken door is from river cottage to prevent fox attacks at night but not have to let them in & out!
Below is the laying box from the orchard / Garden side!

This is the access from inside for the chickens

This is the present the chickens gave me for such a nice laying box within 30mins of it being finished..

This is the chicken door, they seem to have figured it out already :)

Thanks the chicken door has had a 100% take up rate, they seem to love it & I do sleep safer at night as i reckon the fox would have a hard time getting up that :)

How high off the ground is the actual hole in the wall Cai? Only asking as I've seen a fox clear a 6ft fence down here in the burbs.
...and not wanting to give you nightmares either :|

The hole is about 1.4m of off the ground but i'm hoping that the small hole and the angle of the walking pole makes it hard to get up for a fox :)

I think you're onto a good thing with walking pole/ladder. It would probably have to be an extremely gymnastic fox to tackle that angle. You've done an amazing job, good to see the girls are appreciative too.

 the inside is painted with tar based water tank sealant which is nice and thick to seal the gaps in the palings, it was the cheapest option I could find!
