Post Surrogate Mother Hens...
I have had my incubator in one of my classes at school for the last 3 weeks...

7 chicky babes have hatched in the last 24 hours, bringing great excitement to the year 1/2 class who DID actually get to see a chick from pip to fully hatched :)

So at just under a day old, I have brought the chicks home to be placed under a broody Mother who has been stealing eggs and sitting on fake eggs for nearly 5 weeks now...

We have just been out (9pm) and removed the fake eggs and placed the chicks under her...

Hopefully this broody Mum is really 'over' sitting on eggs and is ready for motherhood and takes to them in "the right way" come daylight tomorrow.

This is the first time I have done this... so wish us luck :)

We have not inherited the earth, we have merely borrowed it from our children (Kenyan proverb)

I'm hoping to do this myself with a few extra chicks for my broody girl. Let us know if it worked. What breed of hen?

Lots of pets, garden and cups of tea on the front porch. Farm in the suburbs.
