Post Blackberries!
My bumper crop of last season was an accidental one...

I was down in my back horse paddock saying g'day to my young ponies, and I found a little mound with blackberries growing on it. They were just starting to ripen.

Armed with a plastic container and a pair of tongs, I picked all that were ready, and over the course of about a fortnight I stripped the bush.

I got about a kilo... They are in the freezer at the moment, but I'm going to add them to some of last years' preserved apples and make jam. I already put a few through the blender to mix in with some yogurt. Yum!

I know they say not to take blackberries from roadsides because you never know what has been sprayed, but these were right in the middle of my paddock, so pretty safe.

Your last point is very true. I never trust blackberries unless they are on a private property where you have access to the history of the plants. The only ones around Canberra that I really trust are the ones in the Cotter Catchment, because they aren't allowed to spray where our water comes from!

We have loads of them on the farm here Cai, i actually need to start cutting some down. As long as you can convince Carrie to share people are welcome to come get em when they ripen.

That sounds fair- we pick the berries prior to helping you remove the canes.

I have a scythe that we used to use to cut blackberries back, the best method was to cut into the centre of the patch with the scythe and tether the goat in the middle & let it eat them down :D
