Post How to fillet a fish. Picture Heavy.
My friends and I caught these off the rocks. Infact, I caught them all. :cheersarm

I got my camera out to record how we did the filleting. I reckon that the many photographs that follow, should be all that you need to know how to fillet fish in the future.

I am not a fisherman in anysense of the word.

But Have silver perch growing out in a tank in the backyard. So catching is just a matter of scooping them out with a net.

But that leaves me with a live fish.
How do you kill a fish?

With a priest - no really! Heavy and hard enough lump of wood to give the last rites to the fish - traditionally called a fisherman's priest, bit like the shortened handle of a sink/drain plunger!

i'd recommend cutting the fish's throat rather than knocking it on the head.......i was a commercial fisherman for 12 years.....during that time any fish i was selling got bumped on the head (due to time constraints when really ripping them in)...but anything i was planning to eat had it's throat cut...think of it as the difference between cutting a hen's throat or snapping it's neck.

So what is the difference between bumping it on the head or chopping it off?

(apart from the lack of lack of head  )

the colour of the flesh....and taste....depending if fish has or has not been bled
wouldnt cut the head off to kill it tho just stick knife through gills and cut the throat
