Post Big surprise!
Had a friend over yesterday for a visit and whilst showing him around i oticed Regan, my herd matriarch, was absent. This is quite unusual as she never missed the opportunity for a feed of pellets.

A little while later we went for a walk up the back of the property and spotted her in the corner of the paddock under a stand of trees. She ppeared to be grazing.

We continued on our walk and came back past her about twenty minutes later. Imaging my surprise when a newborn calf wobbled out from behind a tree! As i didn't want to upset her we left her to herself.

She appeared at the gate with her calf about two hours later and got her hoped for bucket of pellets.

Its a little black long leg bull calf. I'll post a picture later when i get on the PC.

It was a surprise as she wasn't showing much at all. I thought she still had a couple of months to go!

So that's my first for the 2013-14 season. Just hope i keep my 2:1 heifer-bull calf ratio

They are the nice surprises, especially when they do it all by themselves :)
