Post Wanting to buy some Goats pls but need advice
Howdy

After much reading we have decided that we need a couple of goats.

We have native grasses, no pasture, and we have read and been told that if we dont manage it with other livestock, the moos are going to keep eating the good stuff and leave what they dont like alone - encouraging the stuff they dont like to overtake the stuff they do like.

We dont want horses and we dont want sheep.

Can anyone tell me if my wish list would work by having several desexed male goats in a group?

We dont want to breed them, oh and they need to be friendly - dont want ferals...........so to speak.

Will happily come and pick up from basically anywhere

Cheers
Donna

you don't want your goats to be TOO friendly either. My sister bought a goat to control blackberry and now has a whole flock. She had to get rid of her original one as he was so familiar he became difficult to handle. You shouldn't have that problem if there are more than one though.

do they jump up on your freezer on the verandah to look through your window, and come into the house if the door is left unlatched?

I guess they would not be worse than a handful of pushy dexters.

My experience growing up with goats & watching our neighbours is if you think your fences are sheep proof then the goats look at them as some kind of vaulting challenge.
Just make sure you put bells on their necks so you can find them :)

I've got two wethered boys, a british alpine and an australian melaan. They're in a paddock with a single electric tape and it keeps them in with no worries. Had them momentarily in a yard without tape and they both went straight through the fence, cheeky monkeys

Love them, they're hilarious :D Mine came from a friend and were hand raised.

These are my two boys I pick up next month once my fences are done, finished and have zap.
Smooch on the left is an anglo nubian and the unnamed fellow on the right is a toggenburg. Both approx 8mnth old werthers.

I'm hoping they will be a good addition to our grazing program, as well as eating all the fruit tree prunings and other unwanted goat friendly
growth around the place.
