Post Trouble sourcing a mobile butcher
I have for the last few months been trying to source someone in the Canberra region to slaughter and butcher a couple of lambs. I have tried those listed on the mobile butchers thread but they are either booked out till next year or not interested in coming for only a couple of lambs (which I don't criticize them for).

Does anyone have any other contacts (e.g.: retired farmers, butchers, hunters etc) in the Canberra region who would be willing to do a small butchering job. I am even willing to take the lambs to them if this is easier.

I never thought it would be so difficult to source someone to knock a couple of sheep.

Hi Chooka,
If you only want to do a couple have you tried the Bungendore butcher?
I think its about $40 each.

Hi Cai,

No I haven't but will give them a try. Someone else had mentioned this, but had also told me that it was quite costly by the time they were sent to the abattoirs and then returned and butchered.

We had the same trouble as you with butchers being booked out so we went through Paul Darmody at Bungendore & I think from memory its $40 / sheep including Abbatoir

Thanks Mal, I took Cai's advice and gave Bungendore butchery a call. $55 a head which I think is quite reasonable. You drop them off in Bungendore Sunday afternoon, they are carted off to the Cootamundra Abattoir Monday, the carcasses a brought back Thursday and hung. They are then chopped up early the following week ready for collection.
