Post Re: What breed of sheep?
Photos too far away to tell ... I suspect that they are just crossbred with coloured fleece, and they have been selected into a mob for their wool to be used as natural colour, and then bred on from there.
I used to work at a skin store (late 70's) and sometimes coloured skins like these would come through from the abattoir...(I had some tanned for floor mats.)
They are a real nuisance for the woolgrower trying to keep the clip white, so were usually slaughtered as fat sucker lambs.
Around that time the homespinning craft took off and then there was a niche market for them.
Earlier still these lambs would have been killed at birth as the woolgrower would not want his neighbours to know that he had a " defective ram throwing 'black fleece'"
A shamefull thing at the time...
Especially if it was a Stud flock.

My friend now thinks they might be "Damper". A Dorper, Damara cross.
