Post How Made Pesticide for Catapillars and Grasshoppers???
Hey,
I am getting grass hoppers and caperpillas eating their wat through my plants.
I had a look in a few of my gardening books and tried the general pestcide of
Water + Chilli + Onion + Garlic.

The Grasshoppers loved the taste I think. So I added some dish liquid as they said soapy water was specific to grasshoppers.

Nothing happened again.

I would prefer to stay away from chemicals if I can.
Does anyone have any advice on what I can spray on the plants to get rid of the pesky little buggers. (They can eat the rest of my plants, just not my food!)

Thanks,
Brad

Brad,
Have you thought about using finer mesh over the top of your frames so they can't get in?

Hi Brad. you are doing all the right things.
Ducks and guinea fowl. :D
nothing cleans up catapillars slugs snails and bugs like indian runner ducks and guinea fowl. and they don't tend to spoil the plants as chooks can.
other than that.... ;) something oily to block their breathing- try adding a little cold pressed oil to the mix.

and yes a cover over the plants offers a physical barrier if you can time it to beat the pests. I am looking at covering my whole veggie area
Good luck

Unfortunately I cannot effectively cover all areas with a finer mesh. The main plants I am trying to protect are by the main entrance so to cover them right up would make it a bit of an eye sore as people walk in. (The compremise of getting to grow food in my limited area is I have to keep it looking nice).

And as much as I would like to have some patrol birds, so would my dog! I don;t think I can train that instict out of him especially as my wife rewards him for chasing of the sqaurking magpies and I send him out to chase off possums from eating my plants!

dipel will sort out the caterpillars, it is an organic bacterea that has no secondary poisoning affects, it works really well on all leaf eating grubs.

get up early and pick and squash the grasshoppers before it gets warm and they get too quick for you.
