Post Blueberries
I know blueberries enjoy acidic soil, and that generally Tassie soil tends to be that, but they also suggest adding a pine mulch to it. Now, the park next door has radiata pines in it. I would happily go out and collect pine needles to make mulch, but my husband seems to think they're poisonous? So I don't know if I should use them after all.

Can anyone offer insights to this? I'd like to plant blueberries next year.

I use pine needles to mulch in the pots I grow my blueberries in :thumbright not sure what pines they are off though, I'd say just the standard sort, with pine cones growing on them :?

pine trees and needles have a reputation of nothing being able to grow near them but that is probably because they make the soil too acidic for most plants. They should be fine for you blueberries but I suggest you check the ph of your soil first in case it is already acidic enough. Pine needles make good mulch for strawberries too because they also like acidic soil.

Thanks. I'll get a hold of a soil test kit somewhere, and see what it says. In fact, I may have a solution for my crippled strawberry plants too. Thanks!
