Post F..cking Root Crops
Dear All

I have a real problem with my parsnip crop I am progressively munching my way through. They are forking everywhere. Forking that is!!! :D :D

Although they appear OK before they are plucked - its an illusion. They are forked in a dozen different directions and covered in fine "hairs". Hardly any parsnip.

Any idea what causes this? Some say too much nitrogen but I don't thing that is the case here.

Ideas?

Robbo

Robbo, it may not be your fault. I read somewhere that overwatering causes "forking and growth of fine roots".

Perhaps all the rain is to blame?

I wish I had had enough rain to blame it on that. But I did keep them pretty wet - so it may be as you say. Thanks for the tip.

I know over fertilisation has a detrimental effect on carrots - causes hairy growth and forking ...

If they are too ugly to roast up then how about some parsnip wine?
